Product Introduction
Drilling Fluid
1. Applications
In the oilfield industry, drilling is the foundation of crude oil extraction, and drilling quality is one of the key factors affecting crude oil production. The circulating fluid used in rotary drilling is predominantly liquid and is also known as "drilling fluid." The primary functions of drilling fluid in drilling operations include cleaning the wellbore and carrying cuttings; cooling and lubricating the drill bit and drill string; forming a mud cake to protect the wellbore walls; controlling and balancing formation pressure; suspending cuttings and weighting agents; settling cuttings at the surface; providing information about the drilled formation; and transmitting hydraulic power to the drill bit. The drilling fluid system is one of the most critical variables in well drilling; it is often referred to as the "blood" of drilling and is an essential component of drilling technology.
2. Product Performance
Potassium polyacrylamide, commonly known as “big potassium,” is an anionic polymer. Due to its sufficiently long molecular chains, containing amide and potassium carboxylate groups, a large number of adsorption sites, and a significant amount of potassium ions, it prevents the hydration, swelling, and dispersion of highly water-sensitive shales and clays. At the same time, it adsorbs loosely bound components with weak cementation—such as illite flakes—at multiple points, thereby enhancing wellbore stability and maintaining a consistent borehole diameter. It possesses extremely strong capabilities to suppress formation slurry formation and facilitates control of drilling fluid density. It ensures excellent drilling fluid performance, promotes downhole safety, and helps increase mechanical drilling rates, facilitate smooth logging operations, and shorten well construction cycles, while significantly reducing drilling fluid treatment costs and overall drilling expenses. It also helps protect oil and gas reservoirs.
Potassium polyacrylamide for drilling fluids is commonly used as a shale inhibitor in drilling operations. The potassium content is critical for ensuring the product's strong ability to inhibit clay and drill cuttings hydration and dispersion, control formation slurry formation, and maintain effective collapse prevention. The high-potassium product manufactured by our company offers excellent cost-effectiveness and a wide range of applications. It can be used in both fresh water and brine drilling fluids, is effective in both low-density and high-density drilling fluids, and is compatible with various drilling additives.
